A plant dieta has traditionally been when someone goes to work with the indigenous tribes in the jungle to “sit in dieta” as they call it.

To sit in dieta is to be in an extended ceremony – from 2 weeks to often one to three months.

This involves removing distractions, stimulants, and contact with the outside world, to deeply connect with a plant spirit for receiving medicine and developing a relationship with that plant. And most of the time, also sitting in psychoactive plant ceremony, like grandmother aya.

And of course, this is what has become a western-facing version of a dieta, which traditionally was only undertaken by the actual shamans of indigenous tribes.
